Advancing the Vision for the New Museum Experience

Over the past year, the Taylor Museum of Waco and McLennan County History has been working closely with Southwest Museum Services to develop the conceptual exhibit design for the museum’s future presentations and gallery spaces.

This collaborative planning effort has focused on creating flexible, expandable exhibit modules that support a more engaging and intuitive chronological presentation of the region’s history. The new designs emphasize storytelling, interpretation, and visitor experience—allowing the museum to present history in ways that are both immersive and accessible to a wide range of audiences.

A key priority of the conceptual design process has been inclusivity. The proposed exhibit framework ensures that the diverse populations who have shaped Waco and McLennan County are thoughtfully and equally represented throughout the museum experience. By integrating multiple perspectives, the new exhibits will better reflect the full scope of the region’s shared history.

These concepts will guide future exhibit development as the museum moves forward with its renovation and transformation. Together, this work lays the foundation for a reimagined Taylor Museum of Waco and McLennan County History—one that invites exploration, encourages learning, and connects visitors more deeply to the stories of the community.
