Celebrating 250 Years of Independence

This summer, the Taylor Museum of Waco and McLennan County joined with community partners to bring history, art, music, and people together in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
Held July 3 at Art Center Waco, “Celebrating 250 Years of Independence” welcomed members of the community for an evening designed not only to commemorate an important moment in our nation’s history, but also to celebrate the creativity, connections, and partnerships that make our local community so special.
Presented in partnership with the Jacob de Cordova Society and Art Center Waco, the event reflected the Taylor Museum’s continuing commitment to engaging with the community beyond the walls of the museum and collaborating with organizations that enrich the cultural life of Waco and McLennan County.
A Celebration of Art, History and Community
Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed live music, art, poetry, food, local vendors, and opportunities to gather and connect.
Multiple musical performances provided entertainment throughout the evening, while a special poetry reading by Sandy Horton added another artistic voice to the celebration. Local vendors and artisans showcased their work, and guests enjoyed food from J & D Smashburger along with other refreshments.
The event also provided an opportunity to support local arts and cultural organizations while introducing new audiences to the work being done by the Taylor Museum and its community partners.
Building Partnerships in Our Community
For the Taylor Museum, events like this are an important part of our larger mission.
As we work to preserve and interpret the history of Waco and McLennan County, we are also working to build stronger relationships throughout our community. Partnerships with organizations such as Art Center Waco allow us to connect history with art, culture, education, and shared community experiences.
By working together, our organizations can reach new audiences, support one another’s missions, and create opportunities for people throughout Waco and McLennan County to engage with the stories, creativity, and heritage of our community.
Celebrating 250 Years of Independence was one example of that commitment—and we look forward to creating many more opportunities to bring our community together.
