Taylor Museum Community Engagement Event
On Monday, August 31, board members, Advisory Council members, supporters, and friends of the Taylor Museum of Waco and McLennan County gathered at the museum to learn more about an exciting new chapter in the museum’s future.
The gathering provided an opportunity to share plans for upcoming renovations, discuss donor opportunities, and explore ways to engage more members of our community in the museum’s mission. Most importantly, the event allowed us to share our vision for preserving, interpreting, and celebrating the rich and diverse history of Waco and McLennan County for generations to come.
We believe the Taylor Museum belongs to our entire community—and that an informed and engaged community is essential to its future. By sharing our plans and progress, we hope to inspire others to become part of what we are building together.
Board President and Interim Executive Director Bobby Horner shared the museum’s vision for the future, while architect BJ Greaves presented plans and renderings for upcoming renovations and discussed how these improvements will help transform the museum and enhance the visitor experience.
Momentum is building. Construction is nearing completion on the museum’s new collections storage facility, an important step toward ensuring the long-term preservation and care of the historic objects, photographs, documents, and other materials entrusted to the museum. At the same time, fundraising efforts are underway to support the next phases of renovation and bring the museum’s larger vision to life.
But realizing that vision will take more than bricks and mortar—it will take a community.
In the coming months, the Taylor Museum will host additional gatherings and opportunities for people throughout Waco and McLennan County to learn more, get involved, and help shape the museum’s future. Whether through volunteering, sharing stories and historical knowledge, attending programs, supporting the museum financially, or simply helping us spread the word, there is a place for everyone in this effort.
