The Taylor Museum is pleased to share details about an upcoming Juneteenth Celebration at the Baylor Club in Waco.
The event will take place on Saturday, June 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Baylor Club, 1001 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Guests can enjoy an afternoon of food, fellowship, and community as the holiday commemorating when enslaved people in Texas learned that slavery had ended and federal authority arrived to enforce emancipation.
The menu will feature a variety of traditional favorites, including smoked chopped beef sandwiches, BBQ pork ribs, Central Texas sausage, baked beans, potato salad, fried okra, mac and cheese, sweet creamed corn, watermelon and pineapple skewers, pecan pie, lemon pound cake, and Big Red and Dr Pepper floats. A special children's menu will also be available.
Admission is $30++ for adults and $15++ for children ages 5–12, with children under 5 admitted free.
Juneteenth, recognized as a federal holiday since 2021, commemorates June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Texas. The celebration serves as an opportunity to honor freedom, reflect on history, and bring the community together.
