The Taylor Museum of Waco & McLennan County History partnered with Historic Waco to present a special live performance of The Crash at Crush, a Texas Comedies musical inspired by one of Central Texas’ most fascinating historical events. The performances were held September 19–20 at the Lee Lockwood Library & Museum and brought local history to life through music, storytelling, and theatrical performance.
Produced by Texas Comedies, The Crash at Crush tells the story of the infamous 1896 staged train collision organized as a publicity stunt by the Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad. The event famously drew tens of thousands of spectators and temporarily created one of the largest “cities” in Texas for a single day. Through humor, original music, and engaging performances, the production reimagined this dramatic moment in regional history for modern audiences.
The Taylor Museum’s involvement reflected its ongoing mission to connect the community with the rich stories of Waco and McLennan County. By collaborating with Historic Waco and hosting the musical as a fundraising initiative, the museum combined historical interpretation with live arts programming, creating an entertaining and educational experience for attendees.
Audience members enjoyed a unique opportunity to experience local history beyond traditional exhibits, demonstrating how creative partnerships and innovative programming can make the past accessible and engaging for new generations.
